An Anniversary Hymn

My parents celebrated their 36th wedding anniversary on Tuesday. And my dad rewrote the lyrics to the hymn O God, Our Help in Ages Past. Here it is. I love it!

O God our help in ages past,
Our hope for years to come,
Our grace for thirty-six good years
And problems overcome.

Under the shadow of thy throne
We move from day to day,
And as this milestone arrives,
"O Lord, keep on!" we pray.

Keep giving us enduring grace
And mercy for each sin.
You sent your son to overcome
Our darkness and chagrin.

You number all our silver hairs,
You age our speckled skin,
You gave us first our Dawny Joy
And then our Mandolin.

I marvel at the wife you've made:
Perceptive, gifted, right...
She blessed this old hubby man
At morning, noon, and night.

You made the features I enjoy,
Her softness and her curves,
The alto voice that softly sings,
The love no man deserves.

You made the sunrise for my bike,
You made the tall giraffe,
You made the blossoms in our yard,
You made my Vicki's laugh.

I love great music sung or played
In church or concert hall,
But Vicki's humming 'round the house,
I think outdoes them all.

More than three decades in our sight
Are like an evening gone.
Until you come to take us home
We gladly carry on.

Because Your promises are sure,
Because of where they're from,
We trust you for the future where
The best is yet to come.
