Catching up

A lot of my posts from the past week or so have were written ahead of time and set to post automatically. So I'm feeling like we have a little catching up to do, because some big things have occurred the past few days.

This post could be all over the place so I've put it into categories. You're welcome.

A little about me:

First of all, I'M DONE NURSING. It's true. All done. I nursed Taylor for the last time on Monday morning, July 20 in Room 239 at the Holiday Inn Express in Vernon Hills, IL. The sad thing is that I didn't know that was my last time! If I'd known I would have tried to savor those precious minutes a little bit more.

We stopped for lunch that day at a Cracker Barrel in Wisconsin. And CB is known for their breakfasts.

Which contain eggs!

Which I've been avoiding like the plague because T is allergic.

But the temptation was too great and I ordered a french toast breakfast with eggs and bacon. And friends, it was simply scrumptious!

But I have SUCH MIXED EMOTIONS! I do miss it and part of me thinks the french toast breakfast wasn't worth it. The other part of me is elated! My body is my own again! I can eat or drink whatever I want without worrying how it will affect my baby. And that's so nice.

I also made it to his birthday! I nursed him for a year and I can't believe it. I'm *so* proud of myself.

The other thing about being done is that it feels like something is missing. I nursed him between 8 and 4 times a day every day for a year! It was very much a part of the routine around here for me, so it feels strange not to do it.

And one more thing. TIME TO BURN THE NURSING BRAS! Yuck! I despise those things and won't miss them a bit.

Okay. Moving on.

A little about T:

Tuesday was my 31st birthday. It was an interesting day, to say the least. There were some really wonderful things - like lunch with a good friend and a date with my hubby to see Harry Potter!

And then there was Taylor taking a tumble down the steps and breaking his leg.

I was in the kitchen with Lily and Taylor was in the living room playing. I had just been thinking, "I need to go make sure the gate is up" when I heard him tumble and start to cry. My heart was in my throat and I ran and scooped him up. He cried really hard and it took him awhile to calm down.

Typically when Taylor gets an owie he cries really briefly and then it's as if it never happened. But this wasn't like that. I rocked him before his nap shortly after he fell and he was wimpery. And he was definitely "favoring" his right leg, He cried out in pain when I gently squeezed his right ankle as I was checking both of his arms and legs to see if everything was where it was supposed to be.

Thankfully, his one year check up was already scheduled for the same afternoon, so this was the first thing I talked about with our doctor at the appointment. She said we better have some x-rays taken. Sure enough, he broke his leg. I was totally shocked. I just didn't think it would be broken. And I cried. I felt so bad. And to be honest, our doctor made it sound sort of serious and like surgery could be a possibility and like a cast was a definite.

They scheduled an appointment for us at the Orthopaedic Center the next morning. That appointment went very well. And no cast was necessary, much less surgery! The Ortho doctor believes that the break will remain stable and that Taylor will protect it/stay off of it allowing it to heal on its own. Yay!

It is amazing to see how in the first 24 hours he really adjusted to getting around by using that right foot as little as possible. What a smartie! =)

So, please pray that his little leg will heal quickly and that his pain will be minimal in the meantime.

The rest of his check up went well. He weighed in at 22 pounds 12 ounces. And he is 30 1/2 inches tall.

He is at that strange in-between place where he's outgrowing baby food and losing interest in it and is very interested in what's on our plates and wants to eat "people food". It's tricky for me because I have to put more thought into what I feed him now! I can't just grab a jar of baby food any more.

The "people foods" he's eating are yogurt, applesauce, peas, carrots, green beans, bananas, peaches, pears, cantelope, grapes, cottage cheese, toast, and pancakes (egg free). I'm sure I'm forgetting something, but you get the idea.

Before his little accident he was SO CLOSE to walking! He was taking lots of steps here and there and I just expected him to take off across the room any minute. So this is definitely a set back as far as walking is concerned, but hopefully he'll pick up where he left off when his leg is better.

He's just the most amazing baby. He's absolutely delightful and I love him so much. I thank God for him daily and I just feel so blessed to be his momma. He brings me so much joy and he's a little ray of sunshine in our family. Thank you, Jesus, for Taylor!

A little about Lily:

She is growing up before my eyes. I just can't believe she's 4 years old. She has a great sense of humor and can be hilarious. She catches on when she's being teased and can give it right back. =)
She's getting more independent with each passing day. She's started doing things like using the ice dispenser on the refrigerator to get her own glass of ice water! The first time she did it I watched with my mouth hanging open. She made it look easy.

Her preschool had a Summer Fun Day at the beginning of July. When I dropped her off that morning I got teary as I drove away. I just can't believe we're at this point - my baby is ready to start preschool. She's pretty excited and I think it will be good for her.

She loves her friends. I don't think a day goes by that she doesn't ask to have a friend over or go to a friend's house.

She's having a busy summer! Yesterday was the busiest day of all! She had her final session of t-ball in the morning, her swimming lesson in the afternoon and then soccer in the evening! She was absolutely exhausted and was asleep almost as soon as her head hit the pillow.

I just have to mention that she LOVES donuts! Every once in awhile we let her pick one out at the grocery store as a special treat. And then on our little trip she got to have a FEW little donuts and now she thinks this should be an every day occurrence! Today on our way home from swimming she asked if we could pick up a donut. It makes me laugh. This girl loves a good donut. =)

She's into writing thank you notes lately. We've had a lot of notes to write because of her birthday in June and then Taylor's birthday last week. So as we've worked on those cards she's wanted to write other thank you notes. It's the cutest thing - she sits at the kitchen table and writes her thank yous. And she means business. She wants to run them to the mailbox when she's done, so I have to make sure they have a stamp and an address before she sneaks out the door without me seeing!

She had her 4 year check up on Tuesday as well. She weighed in at 38 pounds 6 ounces and is 41 inches tall. Andy and I have always considered ourselves very blessed by how healthy Lily is - rarely ever anything worse than a cold - and we're so thankful for that!

She is keeping Andy and I on our toes and causing us to have many conversations about our parenting!!! We definitely have different styles of parenting and she has us figured out! So we have to work hard at being on the same page.

Even though she can be a stinker, she is our precious, priceless, lovable, silly, beautiful, smart and darling daughter. She, too, is a gift from God. I'm SO thankful for Lily and for the dynamic she adds to our family! It's a huge privilege to be her momma and I love her so much! Thank you, Jesus, for Lily!

A tiny tidbit about Andy:

One word: Basement

He's been working hard on the basement. He really wants to have it finished or as close to finished as possible before football season starts! While the kids and I were gone over the weekend he put the pedal to the metal on the plumbing. He bought the shower! How exciting! I'll have to post a picture once the shower is actually installed. Anywho, he's just doing such a great job. I'm very proud of him.

Softball season is winding down and they're in the playoffs right now. They won their game on Monday. Yay! I'll let you know how it all shakes out.

Andy is a wonderful husband and loves me so well. I'm continually amazed at how patient he is with me and how forgiving he is of me! He knows me and tries to understand me. He's a blessing. Thank you, Jesus, for Andy!

There. Now you're caught up! Please be praying for Taylor!

I have a lot to say, but I'll try to make it brief. :) I can't believe Lily is almost 40 lbs!! She's bigger than Levi. But, I don't think anyone would ever guess that to look at them. She is also about 2 inches taller than him. LOL When you emailed about T and his broken leg I told you I was just waiting for that to happen around here. At my parents this weekend I thought I got it... thankfully, all Levi ended up with was a really big bruise on his wrist, but it really had my mind going for a while! I'm bummed that the day at the park didn't work out, but I'd love to get together sometime soon. Also, I just want to let you know that I think of you often... and even though we don't talk NEARLY often enough, I do pray for you. And, I thank God that you are my friend. Can't imagine my life without you!

Love you.
