Global Food Crisis Day

March 11th was Global Food Crisis Day. On that day I was driving Taylor to his appointment with the allergist and was listening to Christian radio in the car. On Air 1 they were discussing the global food crisis and I was captivated by what I heard.

In Haiti people are taking clay (essentially DIRT) and mixing it with salt and maybe a little butter (for flavor), because they don't have anything else to eat. Kids in Haiti are eating dirt. And they're going to bed hungry. And it's happening all around the world.

On March 11th Air 1 teamed up with Compassion International to raise money to feed children. I didn't donate that day. But I haven't been able to get it out of my mind. $13 feeds a child for a month. A month! It's easy to spend $13 on one meal at our favorite restaurant. I just feel like Andy and I ought to be able to find $13 in our budget. Or $26. Or $39. And this is a prime opportunity to love one another, as Jesus taught. And to take what we've been blessed with and be a blessing to those in need.

Colossians 3:12 "Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion..."
I Peter 3:8 "Finally, all of you, live in harmony with one another; be sympathetic, love as brothers, be compassionate and humble."

World Vision is another amazing organization. They are aware of the hunger crisis and are doing their part to feed the hungry. You can donate to World Vision here.

Check out this video and consider feeding a child for a month by donating to an organization like Compassion or World Vision.

This post isn't intended to be a guilt trip. I know that lots of you give to your churches, missionaries and other Christian organizations. And I know that the economy is making things tight for many of us. At the same time, I just wanted to share what's on my heart and give you an opportunity to help, if you feel lead to do so. Thanks!

World Vision is a very good company. We've sponsored through them and the neat part is recieving a letter in the mail from your child! It's so exciting! :)
